RECOMMENDED BOOKS

"Chihuahuas for Dummies"  by Jacqueline O'Neill

This is probably the best all around book on Chihuahuas currently in print. Unlike most of the formulaic dog breed books, this book is not written in a generic fashion. It is written specifically about the Chihuahua breed and has virtually no inaccuracies. If you are looking for a book to learn about this breed, this would be the best in print book to start with.

"Little Dogs: Training Your Pint-Sized Companion"  by Deborah Wood

At last a book that deals with the special training needs of small dogs! Well written and easy to read, this book explains how to see the world from your little dog's eyes and to understand how dogs learn. It outlines the training techniques that will work best with your little bundle of joy and teach you how to develop a special rapport with your dog and make training sessions a joy for both of you! This book is a must have for any small dog owner!

"Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" by Liisa D. Carlson, D.V.M. and James M. Giffin, M.D.

A must have home reference for any dog owner. This book is well indexed and provides clear instructions for home first aid treatment and excellent descriptions of the symptoms and treatment of canine diseases, injuries, and ailments. This handbook can give you the information you need to treat minor problems at home and to decide when your dog needs a trip to the emergency room. Recommended for anyone who owns a dog.

"The Nicholas Guide to Dog Judging"  by Anna Katherine Nicholas

If you are thinking of showing your dog, this is the best book I have found for gaining an understanding of how dog shows work, how to interpret and understand your breed's standard, and how to handle your dog in the show ring. Written as a guide for judges, thousands of show exhibitors have turned to this book for guidance and reaped the rewards in the show ring. None of the books that I have read on show dog handling have been as much help for learning how to show my dogs well as this one.

"How Willie Got His Wheels"  by Deborah Turner

This is a wonderful children's book about the true story of Willie, a Chihuahua with crippled hind legs, and the different things his family tried to help him to walk on his own. This heartwarming story is recommended for any child or Chihuahua lover, and is particularly recommended as an inspiration for a disabled child.
